Dropbox is a cloud-based file hosting service that offers cloud storage, file synchronization, personal cloud, and client software. It allows users to create a special folder on their computers, which Dropbox then synchronizes so that it appears to be the same folder regardless of the computer it is viewed on. Files placed in this folder are also accessible through the Dropbox website and mobile apps. Dropbox uses a freemium business model, where users are offered a free account with a set storage size and paid subscriptions for more capacity and additional features. It was founded in 2007 by Drew Houston and Arash Ferdowsi.
